Congratulations on the defoliation of Ferry Street. Tom Larsen, 70 Ferry Street (last tree standing) Added: Monday May 07, 2007 at 06:22 PM EST Denise Crosby article Sun May 6, 2007 I want to express graditude and admiration to Denise Crosby on her May 6th "l:ooking for Brad" article. Both her heart and her talent came shining through as she feature Brad and the nightmare Brad's parents are having to endure. Having it featured on the front page will certainly help in the effort to get the word out. There have been numerous articles about my nephew since January, this one was absolutely the cream of the crop!! Many heartfelt thanks! Nancy Olsen, Maple Park Il Added: Wednesday May 02, 2007 at 03:16 PM EST Ely Creek Flooding I lived in Lambertville seven years ago, and I just can't believe that Ely Creek is still flooding. Before we left there was a project going on that was supposed to stop the flooding. It seems to me there are two 90 degree turns in the drian pipe under Union street that Ely Creek runs through. Why doesn't the town dig that up and straighten it out. It also helps to keep the grate in front of the culvert cleaned out. booksellerny123@yahoo.com Added: Sunday April 22, 2007 at 04:24 PM EST It Makes No Sense I grew up in Lambertville and have been in the area all of my life. I simply can not remember a time when someone was knifed on the street, in fact, the thought seems absurd.
But that was before the invasion.
Now we have hoards of illegals roaming around without any identification and one turns up in the Emergency room for free medical treatment for a serious knife wound. Thankfully, the Doctor spoke this illegal's native tongue and was able to communicate with him.
And so the Police attempt to interview him, and according to the recent 4-18 article, Police Director Cocuzza claims that he was "uncooperative," "gave a false name," "people at the address he gave them doesn't know him," and that he is "in the wind."
We're also told the man is being classified as a "victim" so his picture isn't being given out to the Beacon. My question is why? Based upon the information Mr. Cocuzza gave the Beacon, it doesn't sound as if this man's hand are clean - quite the contrary. Perhaps it was the "victim" who tried to commit a crime but someone actually defended themselves. I know that people living in New Jersey aren't supposed to defend themselves but I don't think this or other alternative scenario should be shrugged off. Perhaps this man was involved in other illegal activity? Maybe he was man who is impregnating the 14 & 15 year old illegal female children (that we see so often) and he became afraid that our laws would actually be enforced on him?
Or maybe he just lied and obstructed the investigation for the heck of it (shrug). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll find out. It seems to me, if you want to identify someone, you use their picture.
I think we just got a little preview of what's to come. Michael Melsky, New Hope, PA Added: Friday January 12, 2007 at 01:36 AM EST Mike O'Rourke I believe that the charges against Mike are bogus. I would sure hope that anybody working with the city would be subjected to security checks as well as background checks, why is it that if you get a job anywhere else you're subjected to them and if you're working for the city you're not ? It shouldn't matter that he ran checks on people who have worked for the city for a long time why is it that Mr.Cocuzza feels he's special? After all he is just a citizen.. I think background checks and security checks should be run annually on people who work in any form of government, whether they are citizens or not. Besides if you have nothing to hide it shouldn't be such a big issue should it?
After all every time I've phoned the police for help it has been Mr. O'Rourke that has shown up. He's one of the few good cops left in this town and he actually does his job so now he's being penalized for it. What exactly is it that Cocuzza does anyway besides sit behind a desk and have lunch with the mayor? leavemikebe@yahoo.com, Lambertville, NJ Added: Thursday November 30, 2006 at 06:17 PM EST Old Lambertville High School Lambertville is know for flood waters. Why don't they make the old school the new city hall, that way all of the paperwork will be safe at all time. Plus i would make that road on that hill go a cross the 17 acre to the otherside of the hill. So it would make the people on that hill a little safer, then pulling out in front of a truck or car at the bottom of that very bad hill. I would make that part a walkway only? Plus the old school has lots of parking area also. "PLEASE STOP & THINK MAYOR". I'm an old Lambertville boy myself. "GOD BLESS LAMBERTVILLE" Herman R. We need a law instated such as that on the bridge that riders must walk bicycles on sidewalks. People of all ages are at risk from this reckless behavior.
Mae Sakharov, Lambertville, NJ Added: Wednesday February 22, 2006 at 02:07 PM EST Response to "Mothers should stay at home" Joan, I just finished reading your letter to the editor. I am a father of 2 children. Therefore, I have a few questions for you....why can't the dad stay at home? Why does the dad have to work and possibly miss the baby's first steps or first words? Why can't the mother go to work and have the dad stay at home? You feminist pig. You probably belong to NOW (National Organiztion for Women)don't you?

Dear Editor, The Beacon:
Harry Truman used to say about Harvard graduates, “You can tell ‘em, but you can’t tell ‘em much!” That pretty much summarizes certain political malcontents in Delaware Township: don’t confuse them with facts. It’s a waste of time. Just let them vent until after election time; they go away until early spring when they start all over again.
We got a glimpse of what’s to come recently with a Delaware Township woman’s frenetic public accusations that the local township committee was guilty of just about every high crime and misdemeanor imaginable, from the Spanish Inquisition to the Invasion of Iraq to over-development. The woman, member of a certain political party not in power, seems convinced that members of the township committee would rather build a Wal-Mart over their grandmother’s grave than not. Not nice!!
It’s difficult to take her seriously as it’s the kind of shrill diatribe to which most people in Delaware Township turn a deaf ear. What is clear that she doesn’t know much about how building permits are approved. If she is looking to get one approved, she should go to the township planning board, not the township committee. Judging from the tenor of her letter, she’s convinced the township committee is alpha and omega.
What we should be having in this year’s municipal election is a civil discussion as to how Delaware Township must deal with the pressures of development that have descended on us. Pointing fingers and engaging in disingenuous accusations will only serve to divide the community when we need to build consensus as to how to proceed.
Members of the Delaware Township Committee may be a lot of things, but they’re not pro-development. And, they’ve shown every indication that they’re eager to preserve our rural way of life by limiting development as much as possible. Let’s hope they succeed.
Sincerely,
Brett C. Hall

Brett Hall Added: Wednesday May 12, 2004 at 09:55 AM EST I was never more insulted this past Mother's Day when I was denied service on the porch of Left Bank Libations due to the fact that I'm the new mother of a three-month old baby. The waiter insisted, in an extremely condescending tone, that he wouldn't serve us because my son was under 21 years of age. This is the most absurd practice I've ever heard of especially on MOTHER'S DAY!
He then stated that the restaurant owned all property leading to the street including the sidewalk and the baby couldn't be in his stroller just in front of the porch. This, of course, is not true and I confirmed it with the Lambertville Police...all sidewalks are public property, including the sidewalk in front of Left Bank Libations.
I made special arrangements to meet family and friends in Lambertville to celebrate my first Mother's Day only to have it ruined by this establishment.
