PETA to distribute faux turkey in city

A sexy blond "Pilgrim" will distribute fake turkey in Trenton Monday in an effort to save Thanksgiving birds and convince the world to stop eating meat.

Media-savvy PETA is sending Kayla Worden, aka Tiger Woman, to hand out free Tofurky, a soy-based roast, complete with stuffing, gravy and spicy "Drummettes.’’

Members of the anti-meat and anti-fur organization plan on giving out 100 meals to lucky recipients between noon and 1 p.m. in downtown Trenton as part of an East Coast tour to promote a vegetarian Thanksgiving.

Meals will be distributed at the intersection of West State and Willow streets.

The distribution will occur from the back of a freezer truck, hung with banners proclaiming "Roast a Faux Turkey, Save a Real One!’’

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, estimates that 40 million turkeys are killed every year at Thanksgiving alone. The organization also states turkeys are drugged to produce abnormal amounts of flesh while many birds develop skeletal deformities and can barely stand up.

"Thanksgiving is murder on turkeys,’’ said PETA Director of Vegan Outreach Bruce Friedrich.

Tens of thousands of birds -- known in nature to be loving and protective mothers, fast runners and even able to outwit their pursuers by reasoning -- are crammed into windowless warehouses, states Friedrich.

Those conditions provide areas where disease, smothering and heart attacks are common, according to PETA.

"With fabulous Faux fowl, you can give a bird something to be thankful for and celebrate without causing suffering,’’ Friedrich added.

Tofurky giveaways are happening along the East Coast, including Washington, D.C., Norfolk, Va. and Charleston, S.C. The feasts were donated by Turtle Island Foods.

PETA is sending Worden, who last appeared in the city inside a cage wearing a skin-tight tiger suit to call attention to the plight of circus animals.

Worden, who was arrested in Beijing during the first-ever PETA protest in China, made the news last week when she attacked a fashion model on the runway for wearing fur.
