Enfield muscles past struggling Plainville

PLAINVILLE -- The Enfield High Raiders used their physical superiority in the trenches Friday and soundly defeated the Plainville High football team 39-19 on the road.

Enfield quarterback Patrick Jubrey passed for 152 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 94 yards and another touchdown as the Raiders improved to 5-2. The undersized and out-manned Blue Devils remained winless at 0-6.

"The game was over at halftime, don't you think?" Plainville head coach Greg Styles said. "Look at (Enfield's kids). Right now we can't compete with those kids. They're big strong kids. I hate to say it, but our kids aren't big and strong right now."

The lack of size and strength has hurt Blue Devils on both sides of the ball. Unable to generate any kind of running attack, Styles has had to rely on an offense built around the short-passing game of quarterback Craig Vincelette. The Devils had only three net yards rushing against Enfield.

The Raiders took control of the game in the first quarter. Down 3-0 from an early field goal by Vincelette, Enfield quarterback Patrick Jubrey connected on a 33-yard scoring strike to Jeremy Kauffman (who also rushed for a game-high 99 yards) with three minutes remaining in the quarter to take a 6-3 lead. The extra point was no good.

Vincelette threw an interception on the first play in the ensuing series to Chris Kauffman, who returned the pick 66 yards for Enfield's second score, extending Enfield's lead to 12-3. The extra point was no good.
