Students gathered on Wednesday with one purpose - not to demonstrate or make a stand, but to pray for the needs of Hershey High School, for the community of Hershey, for America, for authority figures and for their peers.
"I believe that campus ministry is important, not only for Christians, but also for Christians to share their faith with non-Christian friends and peers," student Tiffany Iriana said.
Added Kate Rogers, "It's a great opportunity to get together with other believers and to be united as a group and pray."
Because the event is student run, school officials and teachers are welcome to join in prayers, but are not encouraged to lead the group.
See You at the Pole has been going strong for over a decade. The rally began in Texas in 1990 when a single youth group decided they wanted to begin the school year with prayer. Their goal was to encourage youth across the nation to pray at the same time.
The event is held the third Wednesday in September. In its first year, the rally drew 56,000 students from nearly 1,200 campuses across Texas.
Today, an estimated 3 million teens participate in all 50 states, and several foreign countries.
See You at the Pole does not have a national sponsor, but is locally organized by First Priority, Hershey High School's Christian club. First Priority meets every Thursday morning at 7:15 a.m. All Hershey High School students are welcome to join.
