This is how that fateful last inning played out for the victors.
Cromwell's Tim Melien was walked in the top of the ninth, and was moved over to second on a Kevin Bolosevitch sacrifice bunt.
In its final at bat, Windsor left one man stranded.
Cromwell's Nick Greenwood tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering three hits, and striking out 15 in a dominant performance. Bolosevitch was his catcher.
"Nick was just phenomenal," assistant coach Rich Anthony said, speaking on behalf of the entire Cromwell coaching staff. "He really pitched an incredible game."
With its competition from Connecticut all taken care of, the victors now advance to play in next weekend's Eastern Regional tournament, being held at Tinton Falls, New Jersey.
The boys, who will be known as 'Connecticut' the rest of the way, will take on Massachusetts on Saturday, August 2.
It will be the first time a Cromwell team has played in the Regional.
After the game, the champs were welcomed back into town like conquering heroes.
The All-Stars wished to extend their thanks and gratitude to the Cromwell Police Department, and the Cromwell Fire Department, who met the team at the Cromwell/Rocky Hill line, and escorted them to Pierson Park with sirens blaring.
The state champs then moved the celebration over to Ruby Tuesday's in Cromwell for a little post-game meal. The 13-member team had in tow its "2002 Junior League Connecticut Champions" banner.
"All it was, was basic fundamentals, and playing as a team," assistant coach Anthony said. "There was no individual who made this happen, it was just an awesome team effort."
An awesome effort, and a long road to travel.
Cromwell's run started in District 9 play, where they beat Middletown, Haddam, and Portland to claim the district title.
From there, the champs moved into statewide play, and went on to knock off Burlington, North Haven, and Windsor. Cromwell played, and beat Windsor twice.
