If there was ever any doubt that New Jersey's best girls high school basketball was played in the Delaware Valley area this season those doubts have finally been put to rest.

Last week three area teams -- Trenton, Peddie and Willingboro -- ended 1-2-3 in The Trentonian State Top 20, with Notre Dame also cracking the top ten.

Yesterday three area players-- Trenton's Mykeema Ford, Notre Dame's Michelle Campbell and Willingboro's Crystal Langhorne -- were named first team on the Associated Press' 2002 All-State Team.

Two others-- Erika Messam of Pemberton and Christina Campion of Peddie -- were named to the second team, while a sixth area player-- Jenna Graber -- of Peddie was named to the third team.

The selection of six area girls to the all-state list, including three on first team, is the most ever for the Trenton area and caps a season in which Trenton (30-1) won the Group IV title and the Tournament of Champions, Willingboro (28-2) won Group III and was second in the TofC, and Peddie captured its sixth straight N.J. Prep School Class A state championship.

Joining Ford, Langhorne and Campbell on first team were Jen Harris of Group IV runnerup Morristown, Matee Ajavon of Group III runnerup Shabazz of Newark and Chrissy Fisher from Group II champ Rumson-Fair Haven, which lost to Trenton in the TofC semifinal round.

Campbell, who with Monica Johnson of Group I state champ Wildwood were the only players named first team all state for the second straight year, has also won the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year award.

The team was picked by sports writers in the state who cover high school girls basketball.

Johnson finished her career with 3,173 points, second most in state history. She averaged 28.8 this season to lead Wildwood to its third straight Group I title.

Campbell, who announced before the season she would be heading to Rutgers to continue her career, led all Colonial Valley Conference scorers for the second straight year, averaging 23.9.

She ended as Notre Dame's all-time leading scoring with 1,741, fourth most in county history and averaged 15 rebounds.

Ford, who was the Tournament of Champions' Most Valuable Player, averaged 22.1 points, seven steals and eight assists in the regular-season. Her Trenton record 685 points this season gave her 1,786 in her career, also a Trenton record and the third most in CVC history.

Langhorne, one of two soph on first team along with Ajavon, averaged 25.8 points in helping Willingboro capture the Group III championship for the second time in three years. She scored a Burlington County-record 774 points and now has 1,192 career points and over 600 rebounds.

Fisher, headed to Maryland, was a 3-year starter who averaged 17.3 points, 12.4 rebounds and three assists. She also hit 33 three-pointers as a post player. Harris averaged 20 points, 14 rebounds and five assists and had a single-game best of 39 this season.

Ford finished with over 30 points five times, including a career-best 38 against St. Peter's of Staten Island.

Campion was the area's top prep school scorer with a 16.8 average that also included 13 rebounds a game. Teammate Graber, headed to LaSalle, had a 14.2 average and ended as the alltime scoring leader for Peddie with 1,335 points and a record 217 baskets from 3-point range. Peddie was the only team with two players on the all-state list.

University of Hartford-bound Messam, who came back from a miniscus sprain in her knee to break the alltime Pemberton records for career points (1,509) and points in a game (41), led her team to nine wins in its last 11 games after her return.
