Competition was tough and Panora native Kip Janvrin was not up to par for the World Championships at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada August 6-7.
Janvrin, fighting lower lege problems, had muscles tighten up while sitting around between events. He finished 17th in the decathlon with 7,905 points.
Twenty-two athletes, representing 16 countries, competed.
American Phil McMullen was 16th and American Bryan Clay did not finish.
Janvrin won the 1500 and did fairly well in the running events, said his father Ken. But, his throwing and jumping events could have been better, added the elder Janvrin.
Following are the results of the 10-event two-day competition:
100 meters--11.17; long jump--22'3/4"; shot put--44'1.5"; high jump--6'2"; 400 meters--48.26; high hurdles--14.77; discus--142'4"; pole vault--16'4.75"; javelin--190'; 1500 meters--4:19.26.
