The Connecticut Wolves (11-3-5) traveled to face the Long Island Rough Riders (6-8-3) Sunday in the second game of a "home and home" series. The Wolves maintained their first place standing by defeating the Rough Riders for the second time in so many days, 1-0 in New York Sunday. The Wolves defeated the Rough Riders 2-1 at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Long Island started the game with six players that didn't see time the night before, while the Wolves made only two line-up changes. The Wolves inserted Mobi Oparaku and Sean Nealis into the starting eleven, replacing Irasto

Knights and Dean Sewell. Long Island's added energy seemed as if it were going to make the difference early on. Long Island's best chances of the match came in the game's first ten minutes. In the 7th minute, Moussa Sai got on the end of a Michael McDermott cross that was perfectly placed about six yards from the Wolves' goal. Sai's header was sailing for the upper corner when a spectacular save from Wolves goalkeeper Anthony Latronica resulted in the ball being tipped over the bar.

Play immediately opened up in the second half. Both teams had ample space to maneuver in the midfield, allowing both teams to be selective in their passes going forward. Despite the added time and space, as a result of organized defending, neither team created many good chances to go to goal. The Wolves only chance of the half took place in the 48th minute when Fabio Zuniga beat Long Island defender, Laurence Pitaro inside the eighteen yard box. As Zuniga was beginning to line up his shot, Pitaro grabbed Zuniga's jersey from behind, taking him down inside the penalty area. The resulting penalty kick was taken by Temoc Suarez.Suarez struck his kick cleanly, putting the ball in the right side of the side netting, leaving no chance for Oscar Mejia to make a save. The goal added urgency to the Long Island attack, but each time Long Island got into the Wolves defensive third possession was lost as a result of quality defending on the part of the Wolves.

The Wolves travel to Richmond, Virginia to take on the Richmond Kickers on Wednesday, July 11. The team's next home game is Wednesday, July 17th @ 11:00 am at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The morning game is part of a Wolves "camp day" promotion that brings in thousands of children from local camps to participate in the game's festivities. The Wolves next evening game is July 28th against the Montreal Impact - kick-off is at 7:05 pm.
