Performances by Panorama track athletes were good, but not good enough to place at the state Class 2A meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In running events, the Panthers improved their seed except for one which tied its state qualifying seed. Thursday morning, Morgan Woodvine ran the 19th best time in the 100 meters, 13.69. Later, Luke Webner and Chase Hennen competed in the 200 meter race. Webner, a freshman, posted the 16th fastest time, 23.57, while Hennen finished 23rd in 24.19. Friday, sophomore Bailey McAllister ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:12.91 which placed her 22nd in the standings. Saturday morning, the sprint medley team recorded a season best time of 1:54.76. However, that ranked 15th. Carrying the baton for the Panthers were Morgan Woodvine, Chelsea Kirtley, Sidney Beckman and Karlee Johnk. "All of the runners return except for Morgan so the meet was an invaluable experience for them," stated coach Greg Thompson. Panorama had two performers at the discus ring, freshman Shelby Lane and senior Cody Stepanek. "The discus always is a tough event for rookies, but both Shelby and Cody threw well given that fact," pointed out Thompson. Stepanek scratched on his first throw then bounced back with two efforts over 147 feet. His best, 147''8", was the 11th best toss. Lane's throw of 109'0" ranked her 19th overall. Seven graduate Panorama loses three seniors on the girls squad, Emily Block, Maddie Wagler and Woodvine. The boys squad graduated Josh Cobb, Dalton Dorsett, Tucker Duis and Stepanek. Co-coaches Thompson and Shane Arp commented each of these seniors provided their own unique styles of leadership and work ethic and were role models for the Panthers' young, but talented squad. "Even though they won't be competing the next three years, they will have had an impact and influence on the next three years," the coaches added.
