Tuesday, May 1, 2012 The Ogden City Council was gaveled to order at 7 p.m. Tuesday by Mayor Keith Berg with council members Lori Anderson, Margret Liston, and David Ohlson present. Councilman Sean Thompson arrived at 7:27 p.m, Brian Reimers was absent due to a home track meet. This regular meeting of the council included a scheduled public hearing at 7:30 p.m. to discuss an amendment to the city's budget. They adjourned at 8:08 p.m. Department Report Briefs Chad Thede reported from the water department that the sewer improvement project was getting an early test with the recent heavy rains. As is always expected, a bug or two was found, but the necessary fixes are a much smaller task with the updated system . . .City Manager Deb Vigdal noted that the city's website is out of date making the process of uploading meeting minutes and reports very tedious and time consuming. She has been researching options for upgrading the site. . .Funding sources are still being identified to proceed with work on the proposed Main Street Wellness Center, most promising being grant monies leveraged via Ogden Municipal Utilities according to City Manager Donovan Olsen . . .and finally, Ogden had the best participation for the Keep Boone County Scenic Litter Clean-Up Day - way to go OGDEN! New rental rates for Good Community Center Rental rates for the Leonard Good Community Center were changed slightly to reflect the additional costs incurred by large parties serving alcohol. For those bubbly occasions, an extra fee of $50 will be charged for groups 1-74, $150 for 75-149, and $300 for groups over 150. There will also be a $100 charge for events with a band or DJ. Progression Fitness Contract Approved The rental contract for Progression Fitness, located in the basement of the Good Center, was updated to reflect the current lessee, Nick Leerhoff. The contract terms have the rate increasing monthly, incentivizing a future move to a permanent location in town. Leerhoff is eyeing the former L&M gas station on the east end of Walnut Street as the site for a 24 hour fitness center. Budget Amendment Approved Council members Anderson, Liston, Ohlson, and Thompson approved the proposed budget amendment for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012. The amendment better reflects the current state of the budget by replacing estimates with known costs and inclusion of monies for the sewer upgrade. The budget shows a negative ending balance of $12,826, which Administrator Olson anticipated would be at zero by the end of the fiscal year. Library Update The council accepted the resignation of Library Administrator Cindy Smith due to retirement. The remaining staff are picking up extra shifts to keep the library and its many reading programs open during regular hours. The Library Board is solely responsible for hiring a new administrator, but this will not get underway until after completion of a state audit that began on May 3. The library board is composed of Rick Gustafson, Marti Nalean, Pat Doran, Joyce Price, and is chaired by Marge Eshelman Kouhn's Fund Projects Discussed Roughly $20,000 remains in the Kouhn's Fund for city improvements. A lengthy list of potential projects was given to the council for consideration, among them: replacing the siding on the city park concession stand, new garbage cans for Main Street, repair and updating of the railroad sidewalk crossings, and a new tornado siren. The council will approve uses for the Kouhn's Fund at the June 5 regular meeting. A full list of projects with estimated costs is available on our website, www.ogdenreporter.com.
