Thursday morning, April 26, a demolition/construction time-line was unveiled for the downtown lighting/ sidewalk project at a Guthrie Center City Hall meeting between contractors, local business owners, and members of the local Chamber of Commerce. The primary contractor, Precision Concrete Services (PCS), Atlantic, will conduct the project in two primary phases, first completing the north side of State Street between Fifth and Second Street before moving to the south side of the street. The project begins the week of May 28 with demolition sawing of the sidewalk at the intersection of Fifth and State. PCS will work westward down the north side of State, removing concrete, and building temporary access ramps to all affected businesses. According to a project time-line, north side street light wiring and light bases will be installed between June 11-20, with north side sidewalk and curb concrete pouring occurring between June 18-27. South side sidewalk demolition and building of business access ramps will occur between June 18-29. Wiring and light bases will be placed between July 2-11, with concrete pouring between July 6-20. All street lamps are scheduled to be placed July 16-24. Project closeout is tentatively scheduled for July 22-26. The intent of the time-line is to have the entire project completed prior to two big events scheduled in Guthrie Center this summer: the River Ruckus (July 28), and the All Class Reunion and Guthrie County Fair (Labor Day weekend). However, according to contract, the project is required to be completed no later than August 31. There is a $1,000 penalty for each day later. Businesses desiring waste concrete from the sidewalk removal should contact PCS at 712-243-2419.
