With near ideal conditions, Guthrie Center's girls responded with two school records and two meet records at the Wheeler Relays in Audubon Tuesday. Guthrie ended fifth among 13 teams.
Leah Courtney's winning effort in the 800 meters, 2:23.15, slightly lowered her own school mark and set a new standard for Audubon.
The Lady Tigers' victorious distance medley relay (Hayley Wilson, Breanna Meier, Keisha Bailey, Courtney) set a new Wheeler Relays record of 4:25.83.
Wilson put her name in the GC record book with a 16.48 clocking in the 100 meter hurdles. Good for second place, it broke the record of 16.64 run by teammate Keisha Bailey earlier this season.
Wilson, Kacie Schreck, Meier and Bailey comprised the Tigers' second place shuttle hurdle relay which finished in 1:10.17.
Also second, by the narrowest of margins, one one-hundreth of a second, was the 4 x 400 relay (Sydney Danker, Schreck, Bailey, Courtney) which ran 4:20.55.
Bailey claimed a runner-up finish in the 400 meter hurdles, 1:13.68.
Therese Frels ran third in the 3000 meters, 11:51.79, and fourth in the 1500 meters, 5:29.96.
Also placing in two individual events was Danker who was fourth in the 400 meters, 1:06.50, and sixth in the 800 meters, 2:38.18.
Guthrie added a sixth place in the sprint medley relay (Wilson, Meier, Danker, Schreck) 2:01.87.
"The distance medley looked good and the shuttle ran solid although we still need more consistency. We have work to do with our 200 and 400 times which need to start improving down the stretch," said coach Dave Spratte.
"I'm looking for a few individuals to take it to the next level as we approach the state qualifying meet. We need everyone to run with confidence and get mentally stronger," he added.
Guthrie hosts the Gonzales-Parrish Coed Invitational Thursday and will run in the West Central Conference meet at Ogden Monday.
