Guthrie Center's shuttle hurdle relay team set a new record at the Wheeler Relays in Audubon Tuesday, but other than that, the Tigers were relatively quiet as they finished ninth among 13 teams. The new record, 1:02.52, was significantly under the previous best by the Tigers this season. Running on the winning hurdle unit were Austin Laabs, Gavin Laughery, Marcus Bolton and Eric Langford. The record setting run ranks the Tigers fifth in Class 1A this spring. Coach Bob Bolton noted his team still was without sprinter Tim Schachtner and distance specialist Eddy Halbur. He said Cody Holmes competed with a sore hamstring that affected his performance. Marcus Bolton was held out of the high jump to keep him fresh for the shuttle hurdle event and that worked, pointed out coach Bolton. Overall, the competition was stiff, according to Bolton. The Tigers garnered three fourth place finishes. They were Caleb Courtney, 800 meters, 2:11.47; Adam Courtney, 1600 meters, 5:02.80; and 4 x 200 relay (Langford, Curtis Bolton, Marcus Bolton, Laughery) 1:39.17. Sixth place finishes were recorded by Jordan Christensen, 1600 meters, 5:08.49 and 4 x 800 relay (Christensen, Holmes, Caleb Courtney, Adam Courtney) 9:14.59. Thursday is the Gonzales-Parrish Coed Invitational at Guthrie Center and Bolton said he will be switching things around so that all team members will compete in at least one event. Monday is the West Central Activities Conference meet at Ogden. Team Standings 1. IKM-Manning 100; 2. Treynor 80; 3. Panorama 73; 4. Tri-Center 72; 5. Griswold 56; 6. Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton 43; 7.
