Sheriff Marty Arganbright has announced Guthrie County is one of the first western Iowa counties to participate in the new "Got the Dot?" program. The program, designed to assist first responders with the information they need in the event of an automobile accident, has already been implemented state-wide in Illinois. According to program literature available at the sheriff's office or at www.guthriecounty.org/sheriff, actions taken in the first hour following traumatic injury in a vehicle accident are critical in saving lives. Participation in the Guthrie County Yellow Dot Program aids Guthrie County emergency personnel in assisting you immediately in the event of a serious accident. Program participants place a reflective sticky yellow dot on the rear of their vehicle. The dot tells emergency personnel that emergency information regarding the driver of the vehicle is located inside the vehicle's glove compartment. That information includes participant's name, photograph, emergency contact information, physician, medical conditions, allergies, current medications, and any other pertinent information emergency personnel should know. "Timely actions taken immediately following an accident are critical to saving lives," commented Arganbright. "Participation in this program makes good sense." Arganbright noted it is critical participants keep vehicle information up to date at all times.
