Ogden Mayor Keith Berg presided over an uncontentious city council meeting, Tuesday, running just over 30 minutes from gavel to gavel. Council members Lori Anderson, Margret Liston, and David Ohlson were present at roll call with Councilman Brian Reimers arriving shortly thereafter. Sanitary sewer project completed Following their procedural business, the Council entertained a final report from Scott Renaud with FOX Engineering regarding the 2010/2011 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project. Mayor Berg noted the considerable efforts of all those involved with the years-long project and applause filled the chambers following the council's approval of a statement of completion. The total cost of the project was $307,426.48. Public hearing May 1 to discuss amended City budget City Manager Donovan Olson presented an amendment to the 2011/2012 budget that shows increased revenues of $108,276 and additional expenditures totalling $398,802. Olson said that the bulk of the new expenditures can be attributed to the completion of the storm sewer projects and purchase of an ambulance. Residents are encouraged to attend a public hearing on the amended budget during the Council's regular May 1 meeting. The hearing will begin in the council chambers at 7:30 p.m. Bob Kieffer appointed as second building inspector Mayor Berg appointed Bob Kieffer to serve as a second building inspector for the city while current inspector, Tom Kieffer, recovers from surgery. Bob has assisted Tom in the past and his appointment was unanimously approved by the Council. Pharaoh resigns from fire department Fire Chief Dan Wilson reported that Jerry Pharaoh offered his resignation at the April 2 Fire meeting. Pharaoh, who was in attendance, was commended for his 45 years of service. The Ogden Reporter will highlight Pharaoh's career in an upcoming issue. Humane Society contract amended, renewed Following questions raised by Police Chief Mick Bailey, the Boone Area Humane Society agreed to replace a flat $25 per trip service charge in the current contract with a $0.55 per mile service charge per trip. The new service charge mirrors the State mileage rate and puts Ogden in line with fees paid by surrounding communities. Chief Bailey estimated the change would save the City $10-$12 per trip. April 21 declared litter cleanup day Mayor Berg proclaimed Saturday, April 21 as Keep Boone County Scenic Litter Clean-Up Day, coinciding with the observation of Earth Day on Sunday, April 22. The City will distribute free green garbage bags to local businesses for residents to pickup if they wish to participate.
