Police Chief Mick Bailey has the honor of pinning a badge on his son, Ethan.
Ogden Police Chief Mick Bailey had the proud honor of pinning a badge to his son Ethan's uniform following his graduation from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Friday, April 7 as a member of the 243rd basic training class.
The Basic Academy is an intense 14-week training course that prepares young officers for active law enforcement duty. Some major areas that are covered are 72 hours of firearms training; physical training each day, culminating in a 5k run just before graduation; defensive tactics training including boxing; precision driving as well as many hours of classroom instruction.
Recruits are taught basic report writing and field note taking. Overall, the academy prepares them for initial duty, however training continues once they reach their respective agency in the form of field training.
Now that he has completed the 14-week class at the academy, Ethan will return to his job with the Boone Police Department.
Ethan, a 2009 OHS graduate, took a part-time position with the department in July of 2010. He was offered a full time position in January.
"I am extremely pleased he decided to follow in my footsteps, said Mick. "His mother (Anne) and I are very proud and wish him a long, happy and safe career." Mick's mother views the celebration differently. "My mother called and said although she is proud, its just one more person she has to worry about."
Ethan and his wife Charise reside in Boone.
