There were a number of close races in city elections Tuesday, nowhere more evident than in local mayoral races. Unofficial results follow.
Panora was the home to the closest race in the county, where incumbent Mayor Steven Baker was defeated by current city council member Pat Parker, 88 to 86. Parker was a write-in. Two other write-ins, Andy Carson and Stu Firebaugh, took council seats from David Beidelman and Mark Humphreys who were unopposed on the official ballot.
In Guthrie Center, incumbent Mayor Dennis Kunkle survived a strong challenge from Jim Robson, 151 to 135. Doug Calley received 19 votes.
In the Guthrie Center city council race, incumbent Duane Norgart lost his seat, recording 166 votes. New council members will be Roger Underwood and Carolyn Masters, who received 237 and 192 votes respectively. Incumbent Craig Heckman held on to his seat with 224 votes.
Public measures regarding local libraries passed in Bayard 64 to 41 and in Menlo 37 to 0.
