The Missourian is seeking staff members ages 13-18 who live in any of the Franklin County school districts. Students must be enrolled in a local school or homeschooled.
Journalism experience is not required, but all staff members must attend free training sessions and meetings.
Applicants should be willing to complete one to two assignments per month for the entire school year. Staff members will be encouraged to generate their own story ideas, but the youth editor also can assign stories if desired.
Any staff member who contributed to My MO in the past must reapply each year.
All teens interested in joining this year's staff must submit the following:
Name, city of residence, age, phone number, e-mail address, school and grade, any journalism, writing, photography or drawing experience if applicable, why the applicant wants to join the staff, and four story ideas that apply to Franklin County youth.
Applicants interested in writing must submit a 300- to 500-word formal writing sample. No poetry or other informal writing samples will be accepted. The writing sample may be from a previous classroom assignment.
Teens interested in photography and drawing must submit three to five sample photos or illustrations with captions.
