Santa is coming to Kalona Saturday, Nov. 28, for the kickoff of the Christmas season with a variety of activities planned for the youngsters and adults.
The day will start with breakfast with Santa at Kalona Family Restaurant from 9 to 10 a.m. Reservations are required to have breakfast with Santa.
Youngster not attending the breakfast will be able to visit with Santa from 10 to 11 a.m. in Kalona Family Restaurant. The Chamber is requesting donations of candy so Santa will have something to give the youngsters.
Christmas Craft Show
There will be 19 vendors in the Kalona Christmas Craft Show. Its site has been changed to the Kalona Rec Center due to the growing number of vendors.
"We are going to have a full show," commented show organizer Larry Moeller. Vendors include many Christmas items, jewelry, painted rocks and turkey feathers, quilts, hand knitted scarves and hats, pillow cases, potato bags, lighted glass blocks and wine bottles, hand made rugs and place mats, and many gift baskets.
Anyone interested in being a vendor should contact Bobbi Peiffer at Cherry Blossom Boutique 656 -2434 or Larry Moeller at English River Antiques 656-2488.
Christmas Tree Walk
The Kalona Historical Village will have a Tree Walk. Merchants are invited to sponsor a tree to place throughout the Village Visitor's Center. Merchants are asked to call Bobbi Peiffer at 656-2434 if they want to have a tree representing their business at the Village Tree Walk. See separate story.
Children's Movie
A free children's movie (Dr. Seuss' "How The Grinch Stole Christmas") will be shown at the Velma Skola Program Room in the Kalona Public Library from 12:30 to 2 p.m. There will be free popcorn. A Cookie Walk will be held at the Chamber building from 2 to 3:30 pm.
Christmas parade
The annual lighted Christmas parade will be held at 5:30 p.m. Entry forms are available at the Chamber Office. Line up is in the parking lot at Bulltowne Plaza.
Tuscan Moon Grill on 5th Street will have a horse drawn carriage in the parade and will be giving rides in the carriage after the parade for several hours.
