While Gary Randall continues to heal up from injuries that occurred during an accident nearly two months ago, his friends and neighbors will hold a benefit concert in Madison on Sunday to assist with paying medical bills. Randall reports making good progress after suffering a broken pelvis from a Sept. 26 fall from scaffolding at his Madison home. He had to undergo two surgeries to install a plate and screws to repair breaks to his front and back pelvis. His physicians estimated that he might need to spend six to 12 months in a wheelchair during the healing process, but Randall said he only needed one week before setting the wheelchair aside. "I can say that my injuries are healing much more quickly that anyone would have thought," he said. Randall said he was standing on scaffolding outside of his two story, Victorian-style home on the day of his accident. He was repairing the overhang along the roof when the scaffolding frame came apart and he fell to the ground. The doctors repaired his pelvis, but Randall still can't place any weight on his right leg. He also wears a cast on his right wrist. The medical bills are still getting sorted out, but Randall said the charges from the surgeon alone will amount to about $50,000. His friend, Donna Erickson of Gilbert, Ariz., started arranging a benefit concert to help Randall a few days after the accident. Her daughter, Ronda Larson of Madison, helped organize the event scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The organizers are asking those persons attending the benefit to make donations to help pay for Randall's medical expenses. A fellowship gathering will follow the concert. According to Larson, each person or group performing at the concert will perform two numbers and the musical styles should range from Christian to blues. Among the performers scheduled are The Emissaries, Trinity Celebration Team, St. Thomas Folk Group, Kiwanis Quartet, Richard Wolf of Madison, Jenn Richards of Madison accompanied by Patsy Rosell, Mary and Carolyn Hunter of Madison, Marli Jones of Madison, and Gary Snow of Brookings accompanied by Larry Green. The congregations of local churches were asked to donate desserts to serve to concert attendees, and organizers will serve coffee, cake and any other confections after the performances in the fellowship hall. Randall is a musician, performing gospel music with his guitar. He has played at events all across the West from Alaska to Texas. Randall has also performed some country and dinner music at certain venues. His friends have established an account in Randall's name at Wells Fargo Bank in Madison.
