An open house will be held, in conjunction with the holiday Christmas Tree Walk, on Saturday Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Saturday Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., at the Kalona Historical Village Visitors Center.
Admission for the event is a donation of non-perishable food items or a cash donation for the Kalona Food Pantry.
Trees are to be delivered by Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. so the final display can be arranged before Saturday Nov. 28. For more information or questions please contact Nancy at 319-656-2518 or email to kalonatours@kctc.net
The first "Christmas Tree Walk" was held in the Kalona Community Center, merchants decorated trees. It was held for several years and then discontinued as a holiday activity only to begin again in the 1990's at the B-4 building (now known as Grandma's Corner Shop), and again it was held for several years as a silent auction.
The latest "tree walk" was held at the Kalona Historical Village Visitors Center and at that time a
Silent Auction was held and lucky winners took trees home. That too, was discontinued.
This year the Trees will not be sold, they will be returned to the owners after Christmas. The tree will not be a tree that you may pick up to be a tree at home for Christmas). Anyone decorating a tree, individual, groups, churches, or schools, will have their name attached to the tree.
