A remodeled Kalona Community Center and its recreation facilities will be showcased with an open house from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The open house will coincide with a membership drive.
Open for public view and free use during the open house will be its newly remodeled weight and exercise rooms. New to the exercise room is an elliptical bike and a recumbent bike. The weight room has a new leg curl and a leg extension exercise machine. Two 32-inch TVs have also been added.
The facility also includes a gym, racquetball court, dart room, TV lounge, kitchen facilities and locker rooms.
As part of the open house, a free introductory aerobics class is being offered. They take place from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information, call Kalona Recreation Director Todd Fitzsenry.
The movie "Up" will be shown free with popcorn at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, "Monsters vs. Aliens" will be shown free at noon.
There will also be a raffle and a number of door prizes.
City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said a number of area businesses and individuals contributed to the remodeling effort, including Mike Hardman Painting, Thrapp Electric, Second Wind, Hofp Furnishings, Craig and Sue Schweinfurth, Don Showalter, Amy VanDyke, Drew Frees, Carol Tebockhorst, Mike Bowlin and Kenny Kempf.
