GROTON, Conn. - Veterans Day in the Groton - New London area is a major holiday. With the Submarine Base and Coast Guard Academy as prominent features in the area and many veterans who have chosen to make Groton their home, there is no shortage of Veterans Day festivities.
Each of the grade schools in the area had a celebration last week to honor those who defend their freedom and right to learn. Music presentations and meals were offered by many of the schools to show their appreciation.
The SUBVETS Groton Base held their annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Submarine Veterans of World War II East site to pay homage to those who have gone before us and those who continue to serve in America's military.
Veterans volunteer to defend our way of life in the United States and some pay the ultimate price. For this reason we must never for get the sacrifices they have made, and Veterans Day ensures we do not.
