GROTON, Conn. - "Taking care of the families of submariners,' as well as, all other Naval Branch Health Clinic (NBHC) Groton beneficiaries is our primary mission," Commander Jay Woelkers, Officer in Charge at NBHC acknowledges, and that capability has become more accessible with the recent addition of two new civilian pediatricians. Dr. Margaret L. Gross, and Dr. Christina Toufexis recently joined the NBHC family and both physicians bring years of experience and areas of special interest to the Pediatrics Department.
Dr. Gross is a board certified pediatrician who came to the Naval Branch Health Clinic in September 2009 after five years in private practice in the New London area.
She received her MD from The University of Connecticut in 2001 and did her residency training at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Gross enjoys seeing and caring for children from birth to 18 years and has a special interest in the areas of asthma and allergy.
Originally from Rhode Island, Dr. Gross resides in Stonington with her husband Richard and son Thomas.
Dr. Toufexis is a 1997 medical degree graduate from St. Georges University of Grenada, having also studied one year of medicine in the United Kingdom.
In 2000 she completed her post graduate training at The Brooklyn Hospital Center of Brooklyn, N.Y., and remained working there as their pediatrician in charge of the HeartShare Foster Care Clinic for one and a half years.
For more than four years she was in private practice at Astoria Pediatrics in Queens, N.Y., followed by four years overseas at the United States Wiesbaden Army Health Clinic in Wiesbaden, Germany, as their pediatrician.
Dr. Toufexis was born and raised in New York City and is fluent in Greek, basic German and some medical Spanish.
