Patricia Dunn, RN, of Ogden, was recently recognized by the Iowa Board of Nursing for having held active licensure for over 50 years, joining only 13 other nurses on the list. Dunn was issued her license March 15, 1956 after graduating from the University of Iowa School of Nursing in Iowa City as a registered nurse. Her first working experience was at Boone County Hospital. Many will remember her as the nurse at Ogden Community Schools, a position she held for 14 years. Although Dunn and her husband opened a men's clothing store in Ogden, Dunn's Haberdashery, Dunn continued serving in the medical field as a Boone County Mental Health Advocate and as a First Responder volunteer (1991-2006). Dunn traveled back to Iowa City for six-months of training enabling her to work with mentally and physically handicapped individuals in residential situations. She also worked part-time at Ogden Manor, and when her store closed, Dunn went back to work full-time as a nurse at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for four years. Another 12 years were spent at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. Her career continued as PRN for three area nursing homes. In addition to all this, Dunn spent two summers as a camp nurse at the Episcopal Center. Dunn's three daughters followed in her footsteps. Sue McConnell, Ogden, works in the Cardiology Department at McFarland Clinic and in Respiratory at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames; Deb Dempsey, Plymouth, MN, is a cardiac clinician at Minnesota Heart; and Terrie Greco, Boone, has her BSN and works in obstetrics at Mary Greeley Medical Center.
