Using a bend-but-don't-break defense and strong ground game, Harlan Community (12-0) defeated Sioux City Bishop Heelan (10-2) in a battle of powerhouse schools, 21-14, in a Class 3-A playoff quarterfinal Friday night at Merrill Field.

Sophomore safety Luke Musich snared a corner endzone interception to seal the victory with 39 seconds left, giving the Cyclones the win and a trip to the UNI-Dome on Monday, November 16 in Cedar Falls. HCHS will face Carroll (12-0) at 4:30 pm.

The Crusaders moved the ball effectively for much of the game, but were thwarted by a tenacious Cyclones defense which forced the Sioux City squad to cough up three key fumbles, including one at the goal line as they were about to score.

Additional 3-A quarterfinal scores from Friday night:
CARROLL 28; CLEAR LAKE 14
NEW HAMPTON 28; DECORAH 21
PELLA 24; CENTERVILLE 20
