WOODBURY - Republican Gerald "Jerry" Stomski won the election for first selectman, Tuesday, November 3, over his challenger, current First Selectman and Democrat Paul Hinckley.Mr. Stomski received 1,723 votes. Mr. Hinckley received 1,333 votes. The top three highest vote-getters in the first selectman and selectman race comprise the new Board of Selectmen.
Democrat and incumbent selectman George Hale received 1,396 votes, while Republican Barbara Perkinson received 1,622 votes.
The new Board of Selectmen is comprised of Mr. Stomski, Mr. Hale and Mrs. Perkinson.
"We're very excited about the win," said Mr. Stomski, after the polls closed. "We're excited about getting to work."
Mrs. Perkinson said she was thrilled by the turnout.
"I congratulate Jerry for a campaign he ran so well," she said.
"I thank all my supporters. I especially thank my family - my number one fan is my husband."
Mr. Hinckley would only say he was disappointed, after the polls closed. His running mate, Mr. Hale, said he was disappointed that Mr. Hinckley did not win.
Voter turnout was approximately 44 percent, according to numbers from the town clerk's office. Of the 6,778 registered voters, 2,981 people voted.
The remaining winners of the Woodbury election were as follows: Republicans William Drakeley and Richard Famiglietti and Democrat Deborah Fuller to the Board of Finance; Republican Constance Jones to the Board of Assessment Appeals; Republicans Jane Sandulli and Andrew Peklo, III, to the Planning Commission; Republican Thomas Amatruda to the Planning Commission as a full-term alternate; and Democrat Craig Martin to the Planning Commission as an alternate to fill a two-year vacancy. Also, Republicans Martin Overton and Alan Green and Democrat Robert Clarke to the Zoning Commission; Republican Ronald Judson as a Zoning Commission alternate; Republicans John Hughes and Michael Novak and Democrat Kathryn Sherer to the Zoning Board of Appeals; Republican Lawrence McDonald to the Zoning Board of Appeals to fill a two-year vacancy;
Republican Joseph Donato, Jr., and Democrat Frank Kovacs as Zoning Board of Appeal alternates; Republicans Susan Windesheim and Robert Walleck and Democrat Mary Tyrrell to the Inland Wetlands Agency; Republican Timothy Drakeley and Democrat Donald Richards, Jr., as Inland Wetlands Agency alternates;
Republican Ernest Werner as an Inland Wetlands Agency alternate to fill a two-year vacancy; and Republican Louis DeLuca as moderator.
