ROXBURY - Jeff Sheldon, 29, of Southbury, who was the 2006 season champion, won his 18th event of the year at the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series on Saturday, October 31, covering a 3.52-mile course in 21-minutes, 49-seconds - a 6:12-per-mile pace.Mark Andrejczyk, 36, placed second in 22:23 over the layout, which included a trip down the long hill on Hemlock Road.Theresa Krebs, 40, of Roxbury, was the first female finisher and placed 10th overall with a clocking of 26:05.
The First National Bank of Litchfield Bob Lewis MidAutumn Challenge will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, November 7, over a 3.95-mile course that includes a jeep trail.
The race is named after Mr. Lewis, who has been head director of the series since 1986. The First National Bank of Litchfield has been the title sponsor for the series' t-shirt/grants campaign since 1997.
The $5 entry fee may be paid between 7:15 and 8:20 a.m. November 7. Proceeds will go to the Roxbury park improvement fund.
The top overall male and female finisher will receive a $10 gift certificate to a local running store.
The Roxbury series is a co-sponsor for the ninth annual Run For A Cure, which will take place Thursday, November 26, at the Roxbury Congregational Church, Route 317.
The $10 entry fee may be paid between 7:30 and 9:15 a.m. at the church. Proceeds will go the cancer center at New Milford Hospital and the Relay For Life.
The children's races will start at 9 a.m., walkers and strollers will start at 9:15 a.m. and the runners for the primary race will start at 9:30 a.m.
The weekly races, sponsored by the Roxbury Recreation Commission, start and finish near the Everett Hurlburt Community Park on West Apple Lane.
