Lone Tree FFA Holds Annual Farm Safety Day On Thursday, October 15th, the Lone Tree FFAChapter held their annual Farm Safety Day south of the school in Werbach's field. The entire 3rd grade participated in the event and received safety glasses, dust masks, ear plugs, and band-aids donated by Syngenta. This year, there were seven stations with many hands-on activities, demonstrations, and speakers that helped the 3rd graders learn about being safe on farms. The stations included lawnmower safety, grain and auger safety, manure safety and drowning awareness, chemical and fire safety, ATV safety, and PTO safety. Special guest Amanda Vittetoe from Washington, IA came to speak to the kids about manure safety after having a close encounter herself in August when she fell into a manure pit. Despite the cold and wet weather conditions, the Farm Safety Day was a success. The 3rd grade students learned a lot of information at the stations, and the FFA members enjoyed presenting to them. The Lone Tree FFA Chapter looks forward to another great Farm Safety Day in 2010. Written By: Courtney Burr, Lone Tree FFA Reporter
