LOW TURNOUT FOR CITY ELECTIONS

With a shortage of names on the ballots and numerous uncontested races throughout the county, voter turnout for elections on Tuesday was light. In one of the more unique races, there were no names on the ballot in Menlo for mayor or two council seats. Incumbent Mayor Doug O'Brien was written in for another two year term by 33 voters, and council incumbents Mike Culver and Sue Wallace also were the high write-in candidates, receiving 26 and 13 votes respectively for four year terms. Guthrie Center Mayor Dennis Kunkle, uncontested, received 48 votes in his re-election to a two year term. Also uncontested were councilmen Dennis Patrick and Bob Paterson, who recieved 48 and 47 votes respectively. Casey Mayor Forrest Schnobrich was reelected (33 votes), and councilwoman Marilyn Harden (35 votes) and newcomer Robert Williamson (31 votes) were elected to four year council seats. Casey also voted to change their mayoral term from two years to four on a vote of 21 to 14. Bayard Incumbent Jack E. Lloyd was defeated in his re-election bid for a two year term as mayor by Gary Haverman by a 53 to 44 vote. Mark Bonney (71 votes) and Dean Hopkins (69 votes) were re-elected to council seats, and a third seat was filled by 55 write-in votes for Brian Hoffman. Bagley There was no name on the ballot for mayor, but Amy Chapman recieved 16 write-in votes over 15 other scattered write-ins. Lee Melton won his uncontested bid to fill a vacancy on the council with 31 votes. There were three other positions up for grabs on the council, where incumbents Rhonda Crum (34 votes), Don Molle (36 votes) and write-in candidate Ron McNeill (6 votes) led the voting. Jamaica No one filed for the position of mayor, but Pam Chance was written in on 20 ballots over Jim Hogge with 7. Hal Meinecke recieved 11 votes to fill a vacancy on the council. Ladonna Kennedy (24 votes), Karen Onken (21 votes), and Randy Perkins (28 votes) were all renamed to the council. Panora Both council incumbents, Patrick Parker (61 votes) and Mark Vogel (52 votes) were re-elected. They will be joined by Steve Pote who received 62 votes in his election bid. Stuart Dick Cook ran away with it in a three way race for mayor, receiving 152 votes over opponents Kevin Pieper (49 votes) and Peggy S. Schlichter (37 votes). Wade Chafa was elected to fill a vacancy on the council until 2011 with 193 votes. There were three other contested council seats, with incumbents Bryan Belden and Neal Crawford being re-elected with 181 and 186 votes respectively. They will be joined by Matt Funk (155 votes) who outpaced Dorothy Korradi (93 votes). Yale Mayor Steve Stanton was re-elected to another two year term with 50 votes. With no one on the ballot, Kevin Kirtley received 11 write-in votes to fill a council vacancy. The other three council seats were filled by Richard Kipp, who received 42 votes, and Jack Hunter and Andy Johnson, who received 22 and 14 write-in votes respectively. George Ohm received 12 write-in votes. Adair Incumbent Kelby K. Harris defeated former city councilman Danny Claussen in the mayor's race, 110 to 54. Two council positions were up for grabs, and they were won by Pat Kelsey (129 votes) and Patty Bauer (77 votes). Also receiving votes were Jeanne Garner (47), Twila M. Garside (42), and Tim Wedemyer (21). Linden
      Linden voters named a mayor and three council members.
      Albert Daggett garnered 24 votes and is the new mayor. There were 28 write-ins cast.
      Incumbent Dave Hutchins received 49 votes for a four-year term on the council while Henry Daggett took the other spot with 11 votes. There were 22 write-ins.
      Gary Norton received 30 votes and will fill a vacancy on the council. Thirteen write-ins were cast for this position.
