Several accidents were investigated around the county by the sheriff's office and Iowa State Patrol. At 3:43 p.m. in Jamaica Monday, a collision between two vehicles was reported. The sheriff's office stated Hal D. Meinecke of Jamaica was traveling west on North Street and had stopped at a stop sign. When he proceeded west, his pickup was struck on the passenger side by a car driven by Connie Meinecke of Jamaica. She was southbound on 1st Ave. and did not have a stop sign. Neither driver was injured and no charges were filed. Damage was estimated at $1,500 to her car and $1,000 to his truck. At 7 a.m. last Wednesday, a Jeep Cherokee driven by Colby Sherman of Casey struck a calf on Koala Ave. about three miles northwest of Casey. Damage was listed at $1,000 to Sherman's vehicle and $500 to the calf belonging to Jerry Kopaska of Adair. At 6:50 p.m. last Wednesday, a westbound 2009 Volkswagon SUV struck a deer on Highway 44 east of Guthrie Center. The driver was Ronald Andreasen of West Branch. The vehicle, owned by the Hertz Corporation, was damaged an estimated $6,000. On October 27, Jesse Kirk of Linden notified the Coon Rapids Police Department his 2002 Ford Focus had been stolen. It was found the next day at 11:38 a.m. in a ditch about six miles southwest of Coon Rapids. An unknown driver was westbound on 140th, missed a sharp turn and the car went into a ditch striking a county culvert ($700), a fence and tree. Damage to the auto was estimated at $3,000. The vehicle was impounded for investigative purposes. An Iowa State Patrol car, a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria, was damaged in a car-animal accident at 9:15 p.m. October 23. Trooper Alex Dinkla of Guthrie Center was eastbound on White Pole Road when a large German Shepherd ran onto the roadway. The dog struck the vehicle just behind the driver's side front wheel. It then spun around and struck the area between the driver's door and rear passenger door. Damage was set at $1,000.
