Cool weather led to less use of Belmond's swimming pool last summer. The city council learned November 2 that the number of family passes fell as did single admissions and the number of swimming lessons given. Fewer swimmers means fewer admission dollars, so taxpayer support of the pool grew from $37,000 last year to over $48,000 this year. The cost for utilities, supplies and labor all increased. City Manager Lee Ann Waltzing told the council that in the spring, she and the pool manager will recommend that the open hours be decreased next year when there are only a few swimmers, in an effort to reduce labor costs. In other business, the council: --approved a grant application for a flood control project. The application was several inches thick; --accepted the Second Street NE street and storm sewer project; --approved the fuel bid for city vehicles submitted by Kum and Go. Kum and Go was the only bidder at 4.3 cents off the pump price.
