GROTON, Conn. - Halloween was celebrated in a big way at Naval Submarine Base New London (SUBASE) this year, from the Haunted Library and Haunted Submarine Force Library and Museum (SFLM) to Haunted Happenings at Morton Hall Gymnasium. Children and those young at heart were given every opportunity to enjoy this festive holiday.
The Historic Ship Nautilus was haunted for Halloween as the mannequins helped scare personnel walking through the sub and with a scavenger hunt through the museum; the SFLM staff did their part to give people a great Halloween experience.
Haunted Happenings featured a new twist this year with the addition of the haunted house.
"Haunted Happenings is a great family event put on by the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department," said Yeoman Second Class Justin Weaver. "My kids thoroughly enjoyed the new haunted house."
From carving pumpkins and face painting to photos in the graveyard and the air cushion jumping ride, a good time was had by all.
"I want the kids to have as much fun as I did as a kid during Halloween," said Electronics Technician Third Class James Park. Park worked the pumpkin carving table during Haunted happenings. "I think it's great that MWR is giving the kids a safe environment to spend Halloween day."
