Farrell chosen as new school board member
By: CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter 11/02/2009
Tom Farrell
Tom Farrell, a retired Dakota State University professor, was selected Monday night as the newest member of the Madison School Board.
Farrell and Corey Heidelberger, both Madison residents, applied for the open position that became available when former board member Dennis Hegg moved outside of the Madison Central School District.
The school board held a special meeting on Monday to interview the two candidates and make a selection.
Board members Paul Weist, Steve Nelson and Mark Hawkes and board president Jay Niedert approved Farrell's appointment. Board members Michelle Tucek and Tammy Jo Zingmark were not present.
Farrell, a retired DSU associate professor, had instructed courses on business and information systems at the Madison college from 1985 to 2009. He previously taught physical education at the university from 1970 to 1985, but Farrell changed his teaching specialty when DSU switched to a computer technology-centered curriculum during the 1980s.
