Co-Lin women's coach Gwyn Young lost four starters off last year's team in TeAirra Wilbert, Rhonda Dumas, Yashunda Williams and Shareka Ward. Williams is playing for William Carey University this year. Standout guard Rachel Vigers returns for Co-Lin. She provides scoring and rebounding power for the Lady Wolves. Co-Lin's three leading scorers are back in Vigers (13.7 ppg), Latoria Holder (13.2 ppg) and Shareeka Hunt (10.4 ppg). "I think we will be decent defensively and we should rebound pretty good," said Young. "I hope we get better offensively." "We have a couple of freshmen who will help us some," said Young. "A lot of them have a lot to learn." Jackson Murrah All-Stater Brandi Simmons has the potential to become an outstanding post player as she begins her college career in a Co-Lin uniform. On the backboards, Hunt averaged 7 rebounds per game last year. Vigers was next at 5.7 rpg and Holder at 4.6 rpg. Point guard will have a new face in Rokeya Adams from Crystal Springs. Holder and Allison Boyd can also play the point. Co-Lin finished 26-4 last season. The Lady Wolves were runners-up in the state tournament to Jones County and to East Mississippi in the regional tournament. Young, 58, begins his 33rd season at the helm. He has compiled an impressive record of 717 wins and 220 losses. That mark ranks him as the second most winningest active coach in the NJCAA. In the South Division, Young said state tournament champion Jones County should be strong again. Pearl River has picked up some top recruits and so has Gulf Coast. Southwest could be a contender, too. Wolves Missing Guards Standout Co-Lin guards Trent Hutchin and Rob Wallace have moved on, leaving a large hole in the backcourt. Together, they averaged nearly 40 points per game for Co-Lin. Hutchin led the nation in free throw shooting percentage, hitting a remarkable 95.4 percent, 145-for-152 from the charity stripe. He also led Co-Lin in scoring with an average of 21.3 points per game (18th in the nation). Hutchin averaged 2.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He was selected to the NJCAA All-Region 23 First Team and MACJC First Team. Wallace was named to the MACJC Second Team All-State. He led the Wolves in assists (3.1 apg) and steals (2.5 spg) and was second on the team in scoring averaging 18.3 points per game. The Wolves, coached by Dennis Sims, finished the season with a 15-14 overall and a 7-5 South Division record. They were the MACJC State Runners-Up and NJCAA Region 23 Quarterfinalists. Sims is in his 14th season at the helm. Cliff Furr serves as an assistant for both Co-Lin teams. Sophomores Josh Hart and Dwayne Brown, standing 6-6 and 6-8 respectively, should give Co-Lin a stronger inside game in scoring and rebounding.
