    Taylor indicted on six counts

A Tate County man who local authorities believe committed a multi-county crime spree was indicted by a Grand Jury on six counts last month.

According to Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance, a 26-year-old man he identified as Mario Taylor was served with the indictments last week at the DeSoto County Jail, where he has been held without bond since his arrest for safety reasons.

Taylor was arrested in connection with a series of events on June 16 of this year, when a Tate County deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on an individual who was suspected in an armed robbery and domestic violence call in the eastern part of the county.

According to the Sheriff's Department, Taylor led the deputy on a short chase and was stopped just over the Marshall County line. Once stopped, the deputy exited his patrol car and approached the suspect, who used his vehicle to pin the deputy against his patrol car.

The deputy worked himself free, and the suspect fired at the deputy with a shotgun. The deputy returned fire and struck the suspect twice. Both the deputy and the suspect, later identified by Tate County District Attorney as Taylor, were transported to the Med. Both have made a full recovery.

An investigation determined that Taylor was a suspect in a murder in Tate County on the same date, as well as a kidnapping of a family member. The murder victim was later identified as 22-year-old Larry Mosely, an acquaintance of the suspect.

According to Lance, Taylor was indicted on one count each of aggravated domestic violence, felony taking of a motor vehicle, murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Although the incident spanned two District Attorney jurisdictions, Champion has said that the prosecution will be handled in Tate County.

Taylor is scheduled for a preliminary Circuit Court appearance later this month.
