Although the city council hasn't made a final decision yet, this year may be the last that the city picks up yard waste twice a year. Mayor Sharon Brown says there is talk about one cleanup a year. This year's Fall cleanup begins Monday, Nov. 16. "The council hasn't made that decision yet," Brown told Chamber forum attendees Wednesday. "But if we're going to to do that, we probably need to start letting people know." "When you look at what the street department has on their plate, and certainly in the spring, and even this fall when the weather has been so good," there has been plenty of opportunity to get other things done. "It's becoming more of a burden all the time," she said. "That doesn't mean we don't want the town to look good. We do." She said the city would pick up everything and not cut back on what is picked up if the change is made. "If the council is going to decide to do that (cut one cleanup), I'm encouraging them to do that now so the public will have a chance to plan," she said.
