Fire damages Defiance home
By: 10/29/2009
DEFIANCE -- Fire caused extensive damage to this home in Defiance Monday night, Oct. 26.
The home, located at 100 4th St., the Janice Larrison residence, sustained substantial damage.
Defiance Fire Chief Alan Wilwerding said crews were called to the residence about 8:15 p.m. Monday evening. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from out of every corner of the house, he said.
"The teams went in, but then the roof collapsed, so we got everyone out of there," Wilwerding said.
Crews were on scene until about 2:30 a.m., but were called back at 3:30 a.m. to put out a fire that had re-ignited.
Assisting Defiance Fire at the scene were the Harlan Fire Department, Earling Fire and Rescue and Irwin Fire and Rescue. The Iowa State Fire Marshall determined that the cause of the fire was electrical. (Photo contributed)
