Girl Scout Junior Troop 4178 moved on up to the big league Friday night when they traded their green Junior vests for tan Cadette ones — just one ranking shy of Senior status.
The ceremony, which took place Friday evening at Holy Child Jesus School in Richmond Hill, was also held to honor Tatiana Eder, a hardworking 11-year-old Junior who not only made the leap to Cadette, but also earned a Bronze Award for performing community service and making a committment to preserving the environment.

Working toward the award, Tatiana, who lives in South Ozone Park and is a seventh grade student at Scholars Academy in Far Rockaway, volunteered her time at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, where she watered the grass, planted and mulched trees and pulled weeds.
“I was working on and off, so it took me a year and a half to complete my service,” Tatiana said.
And this isn’t the first time the eco-conscious tween has done her part for the environment. She has helped raise awareness for endangered frogs and piper birds by researching and writing articles for the New York City Audubon magazine. One of her stories even graced the cover.
Despite her hectic schedule, Tatiana not only finds time for the Girl Scouts, she cherishes the friendships and bonds she has formed as a member of the group.
“You get to meet new people and make new friends,” she said.
Troop 4178, along with older Cadettes from troop 4002 and Daisies, the youngest scouts, clapped proudly for Tatiana when she received her bronze award and pin.
Afterwards, several Juniors were able to revel in their own accomplishments, when they took part in a candle ceremony prior to making the leap to Cadettes.
