WATERTOWN-A missing person case in town has caught the attention of journalists in Ireland, and Irish journalists in New York City, who are following the tale of a County Offaly native who apparently tired of a relationship and left with the couple's infant son.

Authorities are searching for Watertown residents Josephine Cuskelly and 11-month old Zarakseez Omar, who have been missing since late July.
"One of our town residents came to us and advised us that his girlfriend-they have a child in common-left with the child," said Lt. Mark Raimo, who is in charge of the detective bureau of the Watertown Police Department.
Lieutenant Raimo said the child is considered missing but not the mother, because she chose to leave with the child. "The child is still considered missing; the mother does not want to be found. We have the child out as a missing person," said Lieutenant Raimo.
Raaz Omar, the father of the child, was successful in gaining legal custody of Zarakseez after the child went missing and Watertown police are seeking to inform Ms. Cuskelly that she no longer has legal custody.
"We have been in touch with the authorities in Ireland and the Irish Consulate in Boston and New York," said Lieutenant Raimo, but without success.
Family members in Ireland, meanwhile, have contacted the police department, requesting more information, along with providing any additional information they may have.
Early last week, The Litchfield County Times received an e-mail from Danielle Harney, a reporter from the Westmeath Independent and Offaly Independent in Ireland. County Offaly is west of Dublin.
The newspaper heard the news of the missing child and mother from the Irish Voice newspaper, which is based in New York City.
According to the Irish Voice newspaper, in leaving her partner of three years, Ms. Cuskelly left a note saying that she could no longer continue their relationship, was taking their son with her and that her legal counsel would contact him later.
Mr. Omar, who is 11 years younger than Ms. Cuskelly, has not heard from her or her legal council, the newspaper reported. Mr. Omar said, according to the Irish Voice, that Ms. Cuskelly, who moved to the U.S. six years ago, suffers from depression.
Mr. Omar has contacted Interpol and the Irish government, and fears for his son's safety, the Irish Voice reported.
Mr. Omar also has a 4-year-old daughter Alizae from a previous marriage. Mr. Omar is a wedding photographer who met Ms. Cuskelly at a pharmacy in Waterbury. Within a few months after their initial meeting, they moved in together.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Watertown Police Department at 860-945-5200, or see the Web site at www.watertownctpd.org. Pictures and information are also available by visiting www.missingkids.com, and helpfindmychild.net.
