The Associated Press and The Boone News Republican are reporting that Jessica Hill has been found guilty of second-degree murder of her husband, Michael "Shane" Hill. She had been charged with first-degree murder. Shane Hill was murdered on an Ogden sheep farm while working on May 28, 2007. The trial was moved from Boone County to Pottawattamie County because of publicity surrounding the killing. Jessica Hill admitted to having an affair with Daniel Blair, who has been convicted of first-degree murder in the case. Another man, Aron Moss, who was accused of helping in the slaying, was convicted of second-degree murder. The jury, made up of eight women and four men, deliberated for three hours Friday before breaking for the weekend, and returned Monday. At 2 p.m., Second District Court Judge Dale Ruigh read the verdict. The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the second-degree murder conviction of a man in the shooting death of a central Iowa sheep farmer. Aron Moss was convicted in June 2008 of aiding in the shooting of Michael "Shane" Hill. In his appeal, Moss contended, among other issues, that his counsel has been ineffective for failing to raise a claim of insufficient evidence. |
