Lowering the boom on Lower Base

GROTON, Conn. - A demolition boom crashes thru the roof of Naval Submarine Base New London's Building 105 on October 22, as elements of the Navy Shore Vision 2035 plan continue to change the landscape of the base. The plan, looking toward 2035, aims to reduce the financial drain of unneeded infrastructure - buildings, land and other facilities - and devote the funds to recapitalizing bases and other needs of the Navy. SUBASE's Lower Base and waterfront areas will not only see the demolition of Building 105 but also the construction of a new Waterfront Operations Center and Small Craft Facility: a nearly $12 million project that will raze Building 110 and build a new Port Operations command and control hub on the same footprint.
