Cyclones shut out Lewis Central, 28-0

COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Harlan Community (9-0) was tested by a tough Lewis Central squad fighting for a 3-A substate spot. The Cyclones led only 7-0 after three quarters, but took over the game in the fourth quarter scoring three touchdowns to topple the Titans.
Leading 7-0 at halftime against Lewis Central, the Cyclones had several strong drives but were thwarted by missed field goals of 41 and 21 yards. Their lone score came with 2:41 left in the first quarter on a 20-yard scamper by quarterback MIchael Kaufmann, with Trent Wendt nailing the PAT.
In the third quarter, the Cyclones punted deep into Lewis Central territory to the six yard line and two plays later the Titans fumbled at the 10. On the third play of the drive, Matt Hoch fumbled at the one yard line as he struggled to get into the end zone, giving the Titans the ball at the one. It was the Cyclones' second fumble.
To start the fourth quarter, the Titans punted out of their end zone to the 27, giving the Cyclones great field position. The Cyclones drove down the field and scored with 9:36 left on Brian Kloewer's 13-yard run around end to give the Cyclones a 13-0 lead. Wendt's kick was good, making it 14-0.
The Titans punted and the Cyclones took over at the 40 and drove the field scoring with 5:53 left on a 15 yard touchdown pass to Adam Cave. Wendt's kick was good, 21-0. With 2:07 left, running back Justin Mills scored on a 13 yard run and Wendt's kick was good, 28-0.
