A 13-year-old juvenile was arrested recently by Starke Police Department officers after he broke into a Starke home Oct. 10 and attempted to sexually batter the resident. According to SPD Capt. Barry Warren, the juvenile is being charged with burglary, attempted sexual battery and false imprisonment. The 13-year-old allegedly knocked on the door of residence at approximatley 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 10. The residence was occupied by a 25-year-old female. The juvenile allegedly spoke to the resident at the front door and then walked around to the rear door and gained entry to the home. Capt. Warren said the victim stated that once inside, the juvenile choked her and struck her and then attempted to sexually batter her. The victim fought back and was able to prevent the sexual battery. The juvenile then fled from the residence. Capt. Warren said investigators developed a suspect and were able to make positive identification of the juvenile. After the positive identification was made, the juvenile was interviewed and allegedly admitted to the charges. "For a 13-year-old juvenile to commit such an act against a person secure in their own residence, I am proud of my investigators for stopping him now, before he took that additional step into something even more violent," said SPD Chief Jeff Johnson. "Most improtantly, the innocent, unsuspecting victim was not seriously hurt, and she knows the suspect has been apprehended," he said.
