There was a definite chill in the air and the on-again, off-again drizzle provided the perfect opportunity for parade revelers to whirl their favorite red, white and green umbrellas up and down Crossbay Boulevard.
The fifth annual Howard Beach Columbus Day parade went off without a hitch Saturday, despite the fickle weather.

Residents strolled the boulevard alongside elected officials and special guests, including Mayor Mike Bloomberg, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Councilman Eric Ulrich, Democratic District Leader Frank Gulluscio, Fox 5 Good Day NY News Anchor Rosanna Scotto and Italian Consul General Francesco Maria Talo.
Scotto and radio personality Joe Causi from WCBS-FM served as the parade’s grand marshals, and children and families from area schools, including P.S. 207 and Ave Maria Catholic Academy proudly displayed their banners and Italian flags.
The parade was hosted by the Howard Beach Columbus Day Foundation.
