Council, Board of Ed seats on the ballot in November

This November will be all about the municipal elections - nothing on the state level since it's an odd-numbered year.
The big news is Mayor Andrew S. Adil isn't running for re-election.

Voters will be choosing among candidates for the Town Council and Board of Education. There are no ballot questions to decide this year.
The majority party elected to the council chooses the mayor, and that's been the Democrats this past term.
Adil said that after 10 years of service, eight on the council, and three as mayor, "I felt it was probably time to allow somebody else to take over the mantle. As far as who I believe should take my spot, that would be Paul Montinieri, the current deputy mayor."
Montinieri is "a very popular, very smart guy who has roots in town, born and raised here, has his own business, and does a great job on the council," said the current mayor. "I think he deserves his shot at it, and that will be up to the voters to decide."
Each party nominates six candidates for council and four for the board. With Adil out of the council race, five incumbent Democrats will be on the ballot: Montinieri, Matthew Forest, Jeffrey Kotkin, Gerri Roberts, and Martin Walsh. New in the race this year is Michael Zaleski.
On the Republican side, incumbents John Console and Donna Hemmann are running again. They're joined on the ticket by David Drake, Michael Hurley, Stathis Manousos, and James McAlister.
A third party, known as the "Independence" Party, has six candidates for the council this year: Martha Bugella, Ruth Chavarriaga, John Francis Titus, Lisa Ann DiBella, Paul Copp, and Angela. Dube.
All council members serve two-year terms. Board of Education members for each party can serve either two-year or four-year terms, as determined by the party screening committee and the candidate's preferences.
John Cascio, current Republican council member, is seeking a four-year term on the Board of Education. Incumbent Tristan J. Stanziale is also running for a four-year term as a Republican. Two-year term candidates are incumbent Gina Deangelo and newcomer S. Bradley Milvae.
For the Democrats, incumbent Stacey Hodges is campaigning for another four-year term. She is the current board chairperson. Tracey McDougall, Mary Beth Maluccio, and Maria Kokinis Tougas are also running, McDougall for a four-year term, Maluccio and Tougas for two years.
Current Democratic board members Janis Malec, Marie Massaro, and Michael McKenna are not seeking new terms. Board members Julie Montinieri (current vice chairperson), Raul Rodriguez, and Penny Stanziale do not have to campaign this year.
