On Sunday, Oct. 4, boy scouts from St. Helen’s Troop 139 gave the Howard Beach Civic Association a helping hand and a few good green thumbs by cleaning up and planting autumn flowers at the Howard Beach entrance on Crossbay Boulevard.
Tom Mercatante, president of the HBCA and the assistant scout master, organized the day in preparation for the Howard Beach Columbus Day Parade, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 18.

All the boys, leaders, parents and volunteers in attendance, including Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) and District Leader Frank Gulluscio, who is running against Ulrich, worked hard while enjoying the beautiful day.
