Renowned artist P. Buckley Moss has created a new painting titled "Summer Reflection", which will be released as a limited edition gicle on paper during her show appearance in Kalona, Iowa, Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17. The show is being hosted by The Village Shoppe at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce (514 B Ave.), and Ms. Moss will be available from 1 to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday to meet collectors and sign her work. "Summer Reflection" features the historical bank barn that was built in the 1920's by distinguished U.S. Senator Smith Brookhart while in office.
The restored barn is currently owned by Jerry Strabala of Washington, Iowa, and has been featured on a number of All-State Barn Tours.
The Village Shoppe is one of about 300 galleries that carries P. Buckley Moss' art. Each year Ms. Moss travels the country to visit up to 20 of these galleries for special shows. Moss is well-known throughout the country for her portrayals of the Amish and for her tranquil landscapes. "I love the regular contact with my collectors," says Ms. Moss. "There is an energy I get from talking with my friends and collectors that helps feed my creativity. I am not one of those artists toiling away in an ivory tower. I need the contact with my collectors, and I crave the exchange of ideas."
Moss will meet collectors of her art and sign prints and all purchases made during the show. Collectors are invited to bring two previously purchased prints, paintings, or products to the Kalona Chamber of Commerce, where the show will be held, for personalization as well.
Pat Moss has achieved phenomenal success in the art world and has spent the last 20 years giving back a measure of that success to the community. Donations of her artwork have raised more than $4 million for worthy charitable organizations across the country. In this endeavor, she is helped by the P. Buckley Moss Society, a group of more than 12,000 collector-members. She has also established the P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children's Education, which promotes the use of art in the school curriculum as an aid to reaching out to children with learning differences.
While in Kalona, Moss will also attend a fundraising dinner and live auction hosted by the Moss Country Friends Chapter of the P. Buckley Moss Society. The event will be held at the Kalona Methodist Church Saturday evening after Ms. Moss' show appearance. Proceeds from the dinner and the auction will benefit the Chapter's charitable projects.
For details on the show appearance and the fundraising dinner, contact Doris Greiner at The Village Shoppe, 414 B Avenue, Box 566, Kalona, IA 52247; phone: 319-656-3853; or e-mail: villageshop@kctc.net.
