Shelby County Community Chest raises funds for agencies which provide services to youth and less fortunate individuals in the area. The Community Chest board currently is conducting a direct mail campaign, but is accepting donations from anyone willing to donate.
"The Shelby County Community Chest has designed an efficient, convenient way for you to assist 14 different agencies at one time through our direct mail campaign," said Sharon Kroger, chairperson. "You'll probably agree that this is a much better system than having each individual group knocking on your door for donations.
"We have met with all the agencies and are establishing an ambitious goal for the 2009-10 Shelby County Community Chest campaign to raise $36,000. Please give generously, so that we can help the agencies that provide important services in our county."
Kroger said many of the organizations may have touched your life or the life of a friend or relative. "We all can be proud of the agencies that serve our county and appreciate our services," she said.
Money raised during the fund drive will fund the following groups: Boy Scouts of America Troop 90 and Boy Scouts Pack 94; Concerned, Inc.; Country Care Center; Faith Sound; Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa (Shelby County); Jackson Recovery Centers; Salvation Army; Shelby County 4-H; Shelby County American Red Cross; Shelby County Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Coalition; Shelby County Community Outreach; Shelby County Home/Public Health; Shelby County Fair; and West Central Community Action.
Persons wishing to donate can do so by mailing in the envelope received in the mail, or drop off a donation at any bank in Shelby County during the month of October.
Shelby County Community Chest also has a new website, www.sccommunitychest.com. You can learn more about Community Chest and make your donation electronically. The website features a section about the agencies that benefited from last year's campaign, including photos.
