A Brookhaven man who sustained a gunshot wound to the face in a shooting that took place Wednesday night is in fair condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Friday, officials said.

Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said his officers are looking for an unnamed suspect in the shooting of Robert Wilcher, 20.

The incident took place on East Chickasaw Street Wednesday around 10:30 p.m. Officials said Wilcher sustained what appeared to be one gunshot wound to the face.

The suspect's name is not being released pending his arrest. Henderson said Wilcher has been able to tell investigators enough that they know who they're looking for, but not why the shooting occurred in the first place.

"At this time, we've been unable to question him like we need to, so we don't know the motive at this time, hopefully we'll be able to talk to him some in the next few days," Henderson said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to King's Daughters Medical Center, and from there he was transported to UMC.

"The investigation is continuing," Henderson said, adding that once a suspect has been arrested, further information will be available.
